Folding Octagonal Poker Table

How to build your very own folding, octagonal poker table!

Calculating the Octagon Shape

I'll be honest and say that maths is not my strong point and when it came to calculating the octagon shape, thank the lord for the Internet! I used http://buster2058.netfirms.com/octagon/octagon.htm for the calculation but just in case the site dies, here is the calculation:

My table (before being cut) when joined together will be 1600mm by 1600mm square. The first thing that needs to be done is to calculate the C = Hypotenuse of the square.

You need a scientific calculator for this but on a Windows PC, bring up the calculator, click on View and select Scientific.

1600 1600 2262.742

Now we need to divide the hypotenuse C in half giving us the radius.

2262.742 2 1131.371

1131.371 1600 -468.629 468.629

468.629 468.629 662.741

This means that the length of each side of the octagon will be 662.741mm.
It seems a scary calculation but check it with my numbers to make sure you've got it right!
